Glucosamine & Chondroitin

Glucosamine is made of chains of sugars and proteins found in cartilage or in the fluid around joints. As such, its role is to provide cushioning and lubrication to joints. Chondroitin is a chemical that is found primarily in connective tissue. It stimulates cartilage renewal and assists in generating tissue throughout the body.

The most important aspect of glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate supplements is that they are thought to help slow or prevent the degeneration of joint cartilage, the underlying cause of arthritis pain. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate dietary supplements may also help alleviate existing joint pain.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

Laboratory studies have found that MSM has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Sulphur, which is a major component of MSM, plays an important role in making collagen and glucosamine, both of which are vital for healthy bones and joints, and in the production of immunoglobulins, which help your immune system.

In a randomized controlled trial (RCT) 118 participants with knee arthritis were given either;

• (A) Glucosamine
• (B) MSM
• (C) Glucosamine + MSM
• (D) Placebo capsules

Groups (A), (B) and (C) showed a significant improvement in pain and joint swelling compared to (D).

Group (C) had the most significant reduction in both pain and swelling.

Group (C) had the best functional ability of joints at the end of the trial period.
